The Sigma/Leica/Panasonic alliance has been big news since it was officially announced at Photokina 2018. We’ve already seen two new full frame L mount cameras from Panasonic, and now Sigma’s Art series prime lenses are going L mount. Sigma brought some of the new L Mount prototype lenses to NAB 2019 so we had a quick look. Yyou’ll also be able to use your Canon EF & Sigma SA lenses with the new Panasonic S1 and S1R using the MC-21 mount adapter.

The lenses themselves are not new. They’re the same Art series primes that many of us have come to know and love for a while now. However, the new native L mount versions will offer the best possible compatibility and performance with the Panasonic S1 and S1R cameras over adapted lenses.

The Sigma MC-21 mount adapter will be arriving first, in both Canon EF and Sigma SA to L Mount flavours. The Canon EF to L Mount version will be around $250 and is expected to start shipping within the next month. The Sigma SA to L mount version will be a little less expensive. New L mount lenses are expected to arrive sometime around autumn. There’s still no new updates on the full frame Foveon camera that Sigma was originally slated to launch this year, and has since been delayed. We’ll keep you posted on that as we hear more. We would love to send a shoutout to our sponsors who helped bring you this NAB 2019 coverage: Artlist, StoryBlocks Video, SYRP, B&H, Spiffy Gear. Don’t forget to check out our NAB Giveaway, where we’re offering over $8,500 worth of cinema goodies.
