Samyang has today announced the new Samyang 14mm f/2.8 RF Autofocus lens. Designed specifically for mirrorless cameras, it’s technically the same Samyang 14mm f/2.8 autofocus lens that’s been out for Sony E for a while now, but with a Canon RF mount. The lens offers a 113.9° ultra-wide-angle field of view, and what Samyang describes as “excellent optical performance”.

The Canon RF version comes in at a hair heavier than the 505g Sony E Mount version and shares the same rear gel filter arrangement, rather than a screw-on filter on the front. Of course, with lenses this wide, screw-on filters aren’t exactly the best choice. Landscape photographers might be a little disappointed, though if they can’t attach their favourite polarisers and ND grads to it.

Still, for a general-purpose ultra-wide-angle lens, particularly for things like events, it should work out rather well. And for Canon EOS RP users with that 1.6x crop when shooting 4K (offering a full-frame equivalent field of view to 22.4mm), it could be a great lens for vloggers.

The Samyang AF 14mm f/2.8 RF lens is available to pre-order now for $799 (£629 in the UK) and starts shipping in November.
