At CES 2019 in Las Vegas, Nikon announced that Z series of lenses is going wide: NIKKOR Z 14-30mm f/4 S is the latest addition to the Z family. It’s not only the first ultra-wide lens for the Z system but also the world’s first ultra-wide full-frame lens that lets you attach filters on the front.

NIKKOR Z 14-30mm f/4 S is aimed at both photo and video shooters who want a compact system, yet high image quality. Here are the main features: Lightweight and ultra-portable: the lens is 3.5-inches long when retracted and weighs 485g (1.07lbs). Uncompromising optics: four Extra-Low Dispersion (ED) elements and four aspherical elements for the unparalleled control of distortion and chromatic aberration. Nikon’s anti-reflective Nano Crystal Coat also helps to reduce ghosting and flare. Filter attachable: The front element of the NIKKOR Z 14-30mm f/4 S is not curved, but flat. This makes it the first 14mm full-frame lens that lets you attach various types of screw-on filters (82mm) to the front. Thanks to this, you can expand the creative possibilities of the lens, especially for landscapes and cityscapes. Stepping motor technology: the lens comprises a Nikon Stepping Motor (STM) technology, so it provides smooth, fast and quiet AF performance. Control ring: the NIKKOR 14-30mm f/4 S includes a customizable control ring that can be assigned to manual focusing, exposure compensation or aperture control depending on personal preference or shooting situation, maintaining different custom settings when in photo and video mode. Fully compatible with in-camera 5-axis VR: NIKKOR Z 14-30mm f/4 S is fully compatible with the in-body 5-axis VR found in the Nikon Z 6 and Z 7, providing up to 5 stops of image stabilization without adding to the size or weight of the lens itself. Optimized video performance: Nikon noes that the new lens reduces focus breathing, which video shooters will find especially important. Reliability: the NIKKOR Z 14-30mm f/4 S is dust and drip resistant and features a fluorine coat that repels dust, water droplets, grease, and dirt. The NIKKOR Z 14-30mm f/4 S lens will be available this spring, but it’s already available for preorders at $1,296.95.
