Today’s a big of a mixed day for Nikon. On the good side, the Nikon Z6 & Z7 has just received a new firmware giving it Eye-Detection Autofocus. On the bad, Nikon has just issued a recall stating that some Z6 & Z7 cameras are having VR issues. Issues that can’t be solved with a quick firmware update. You’ll need to send it back to Nikon to get it sorted.
The “Technical Service Advisory” reads…
You can read the full advisory here. ResolutionNikon has resolved this by making available corrective service for affected Z 6 and Z 7 cameras free of charge, including the cost of shipping an affected Z 6 and Z 7 camera to Nikon as well as its return, even if your Z 6 or Z 7 camera warranty has expired. At least Nikon is covering all of the shipping costs both to return the camera them and then send it back to you again. Not all Nikon Z6 and Z7 cameras are affected with this issue, and Nikon has provided a couple of serial number checkers so that you can check if you own an affected body.

If you’re not sure where the serial number is located, Nikon has provided a handy diagram (hint: It’s under the LCD).
If you own a Z6 or Z7, or you happen to buy one in the future be sure to check your body’s serial number and get in touch with Nikon if yours is on the list.
