Nikon has announced the development of two new Nikkor Z mount lenses. There’s a fast Nikkor Z 85mm f/1.2 S mid-telephoto portrait lens and a 26mm f/2.8 pancake lens. Both lenses are designed for full-frame Nikon mirrorless cameras but they will, of course, work on APS-C bodies, too, with a narrower field of view. Beyond the focal length and apertures, not much else has been said about the new lenses yet. We don’t know when they’re going to be released nor how much they’ll cost, although there are a few things we can pick up from the images. Things like the fact that the 85mm f/1.2 will take an 82mm screw-on filter and it doesn’t look like the 26mm f/2.8 takes filters at all.
About the Nikkor Z 85mm f/1.2 S, Nikon says: It will have a focal length of 85mm, a maximum aperture of f/1.2 and be part of Nikon’s higher-end S line of lenses. This means we can probably expect a higher end price tag to go with it. We can also see from the markings around the end of the lens barrel that it will take an 82mm filter and near the mount, there’s an autofocus/manual focus switch. Beyond that, there’s not really much else to say.
When it comes to the Nikkor Z 26mm f/2.8, Nikon says: There’s no AF/MF switch on this one by the looks of things and it also appears that there will be no ability to screw a filter onto the end. There’s no diameter marking that would suggest a specific filter size and it doesn’t look like there are even any threads on there. There is what looks like a possible bayonet fitting for a lens hood but no hood has been mentioned. Both lenses are currently on display at CES 2023, although no release date or prices have yet been announced.
