Nikon has released a brand new zoom lens for Nikon Z crop sensor cameras. The Nikkor Z DX 18-140mm f/3.5-6.3 VR is versatile, lightweight, affordable, and it wants to become your go-to lens for various situations. So, let’s see what it has to offer.

The new 18-140mm lens is made for crop sensor cameras and it will give you a 27-210mm equivalent focal length range. You can use it with cameras like the Zfc and Z50 (or with the crop mode of your Z5, Z6, and Z7). It was intended for everyday shoots, photo walks, covering pretty much everything: from wide-angle landscapes to distant isolated subjects.

The lens is equipped with VR image stabilization that compensates for up to five stops of camera shake. There’s also a stepping motor for smooth, quiet, and fast AF. The minimum focusing distance at the wide-angle position is 7.9″ (20cm), so you can get pretty close to your subjects, too. Another thing that makes this lens useful for everyday shooting is its lightweight and compact size. It weighs 315 g (11oz) and is 3.6 in (9cm) long. Sure, with the f3.5-6.3 maximum aperture range it isn’t very fast, but I guess you can’t have everything. Here are the full specs: The Nikkor Z 18-140mm f/3.5-6.3 is available for preorders and it retails for $596.95
