There’s a seemingly endless amount of photography tutorials on the internet. But just how many of them feature leading photographers and experts? Right now, School of Visual Arts is offering dozens of online lessons from some of the best in the industry. And what’s great about it is you don’t have to pay a dime to access them.

You can watch a total of 109 lectures on SVA’s Youtube channel under Images, Ideas, and Inspiration. The videos aren’t precisely tutorials. However, they offer a lot of professional insight on photography that you wouldn’t get in any other online source. These lessons are perfect for skilled photographers that want to break into the industry. The school regularly invites a variety of guests that specialize in anything from photojournalism to commercial photography. In fact, they also often highlight artists, filmmakers, and gallerists. Therefore, it’s safe to say that their video series pretty much covers the whole gamut of various disciplines in photography.

If your main interest is documentary photography, then you should check out the celebrated photographer Jill Freedman’s lecture. If you’re wondering how Times Magazine plans their photo shoots, they have Emmy-Award winner photo editor and filmmaker Kira Pollack to show you exactly how to do it. Heck, they even featured Former Chief Official White House Photographer Robert McNeely in 2014. Although that may seem like a long time ago, you’ll be surprised how relevant it remains today.

The videos themselves are really just recorded photography with a talking person behind a podium showing slideshows. they don’t have any cool effects or transitions. However, what they lack in production value, they make up for their guests’ engaging stories and lessons. Some of the personalities I just mentioned are some of the biggest names in photography. And their experience in the field teaches you a lot more than photography skills. So I suggest that you watch these videos to really grasp what it takes to succeed.
