It’s been a while since Google’s AI-powered Clips camera was announced. Now, it’s officially launched and ready to save all your precious moments. The tiny camera is officially available for preorders and it starts shipping in a matter of days.

Clips camera is meant to help you spend more time with your family and friends, and let the AI-powered camera do the work of capturing the important moments. Google says they hired professionals to help train the camera’s neural network. A filmmaker, a photojournalist, and a fine arts photographer were involved in “teaching” Clips to recognize and capture the moments worth saving.

With Clips, you can capture and save short videos (without audio), but also pick out and save individual frames you like. The camera is capable of recognizing and memorizing familiar faces. So, the more time you spend with someone, the more the camera learns to capture clips of them. If you spend most of the time with your pets, it’s good to know that Clips knows how to recognize your furry friends, too. Some users are concerned about privacy, and it does sound kinda creepy to have a camera monitor your life all the time. But, Google notes that Clips doesn’t require a network connection to capture anything. When you want to view and select your clips, you can transfer them to your phone, and later share the ones you like. If you want to. All clips are stored on the 16GB internal memory, but you can transfer them to any Android or iOS device. Note, however, that you can’t connect Clips to a laptop or desktop computer. In January, Google Clips was quietly launched for preorders and it was only available in certain countries. However, some users were able to place their orders, while the others were redirected to the waiting list. But now it’s officially available and you can buy it from Google Store and B&H for the price of $249. There are some optional accessories available too, such as a mount case and tripod or a carrying case. The shipping starts 5 March 2018 and it’s free in the US and Canada. [via Digital Trends]
