One of the most challenging aspects of street photography is trying to capture the candidness of a particular scene. Even with a camera as small as a iPhone, holding it up to take a photo can ruin the moment you’re trying to capture. Wouldn’t it be great if you could somehow capture exactly the scene you want without the subject(s) ever knowing they’re being photographed? Enter COVR Photo, a new iPhone case that uses a patented sliding mirror and mechanism to let you shoot photos while holding your iPhone like a remote control.

Made of a shock absorbent rubber, the case attaches to an iPhone 6 like any other. Its secret abilities hide in the patented mechanism that holds both a mirror and lens inside of it.

Angled at 45º, the mirror reflects light coming through the case’s lens into your iPhone’s camera. No need to hold up your iPhone to take a photo and potentially ruin a candid moment.

Of course, the mirror flips the image onto the image sensor. COVR has you…erm…covered with an accompanying app that automatically flips and mirror the image so the composition appears proper on your iPhone. https://vimeo.com/100562094 Besides being useful for more candid photography, the angled lens could also prove to be useful for photographers who prefer to shoot from the hip anyways. Much like new DSLRs and mirrorless cameras are using articulating LCD displays, the COVR would allow for easy composing without having to bring the iPhone’s display right in front of you. https://vimeo.com/136897722 COVR Photo is available for the iPhone 5, 5S, 6, 6S and iPhone SE (which should theoretically also work with the 5C). Pricing ranges from $24.95-$49.95 depending on the model you need. No word yet on whether COVR Photo will be adapted for other iPhones or Android devices.
