Ahead of the expected August announcement of the Canon EOS 5D Mark IV, Canon Rumors are said to be receiving reports that “more than a few” Canon preferred photographers have been able to get their hands on one. With 4K video, and 1080p @ 120fps being the only seemingly reliable bits of info at the moment, other firm specs are somewhat scarce.
4K video at 60fps has been speculated, although not confirmed, but if the 120fps for 1080p video holds true, then it’s definitely not outside the realm of possibility. This would fall in line with the Canon EOS 1DX Mark II framerates, and if the CFast 2.0 slot turns out to be true, it certainly adds some weight to this potential feature.
I think that the 3.2″ touch screen LCD would almost have to be a certainty, especially now that the technology has worked its way up from the entry level consumer bodies to the highest end Canon 1DX Mark II and Nikon D5 flagship cameras. If it doesn’t include touch screen capabilities, I think it’ll be a big disappointment to many potential owners. In this ever increasingly connected world, WiFi and GPS is also likely, but with no mention of Bluetooth, I am curious how the system will compare to Nikon’s new Snapbridge for DSLR & mobile interactivity. I also wonder how much the built in GPS may affect battery performance given how much less power it would take to drive a Bluetooth connection to a phone to get the same information. Either way, with 5D Mark IV bodies now reported to be out in the wild, bearing in mind that these are just prototypes and obviously subject to change before an official announcement, I think that more solid facts about this body and general operation shouldn’t take too much longer to reach the rest of us.
